Asian Paints Alchemy 2025: Stages and Timelines

Registration

This is the first step of your journey. To participate in the competition, you must register individually or in a team of 2 before the deadline. Make sure to provide all the required information accurately, adhering to the eligibility mentioned in the detailed section. 

Virtual Conclave and Case Study Launch

During the Case Launch Session/Webinar, you'll engage with renowned Scientists and Asian Paint leaders in insightful discussions. They will then brief participants on the problem statements and the key expectations, followed by a Q&A session to address any queries.

Submission Phase - I

Each participant/team of 2 will have to submit a summary of their solution for the case in a 3 to 10-slider PPT format. Any supporting Excel sheets etc. should be embedded in the PPT itself.

Submission Phase - II

The shortlisted participants/teams will be required to refine their submissions and respond to the provided questionnaire. Each participant/team must prepare and submit a comprehensive case summary in the form of a 10-slide PPT, capturing their ideas and insights in depth.

Conclave (Final Submissions)

The finalist teams will be required to submit their final submissions here.

Asian Paints Alchemy is a pioneering global platform in the Coatings and Material Science domain, designed to bring together ideas from industry experts, academia, and budding scientific minds. This initiative aims to foster transformative innovation and cultivate future leaders. 

Participants will have the opportunity to win PhD sponsorships, secure internship opportunities, and earn cash rewards! Asian Paints invites budding scientists with a passion for chemistry to join this exciting event, where they will interact with like-minded future scientists in the Coatings and Material Science domain.

Eligibility:

Open to candidates from India or abroad who are:

  • B.Tech or M.Tech in Paint, Surface Coating or Polymer Technology 
  • M.Sc Chemistry 
  • Currently pursuing PhD students in Chemistry 
  • Working professionals in the coating industry

  •  To participate in the competition, you must register individually or in a team of 2 before 31st December, 2025, 11:59 PM.
  • Make sure to provide all the required information accurately, adhering to the eligibility mentioned above.

Alchemy – Virtual Conclave and Case Study Launch

  • During the Case Launch Session/Webinar, you'll have an incredible opportunity to engage in lectures and discussions with Dr S. Somanath, an Indian space scientist and the former Chairman of ISRO (January 2022–January 2025) and leaders from Asian Paints.
  • They will then give briefs directly to participants with respect to the problem statements.
  • Following the briefs, there will be a Question-Answer session where leaders will address any queries participants may have.

Submission Phase - I:

  • You may submit individually or in teams of 2.
  • Each participant/team will have to submit a summary of their solution for the case in a 3 to 10-slider PPT format.
  • The first slide should contain the name of the participant/team members, and the remaining slides (up to 7) are for analysis and/or deliverables to the problem at hand. Any supporting Excel sheets etc. should be embedded in the PPT itself.
  • Due credits should be given to any references taken.
  • Naming Convention: CampusName_YourName (or) OrganizationName_YourName 
  • Students are requested to tune into the Live Case Study Brief Session to help understand the case study problem statements and shape their submissions with guidance from the Asian Paints team. 

Submission Phase - II:

  • The shortlisted participants/teams will have to fine-tune their submission basis the brief provided at a later stage.
  • Each team is required to submit their case summary in a 10-slide PPT format.
  • The first slide must include the team name, and the remaining slides (up to 10) should encompass analysis and/or deliverables related to the given problem.
  • Embed any supporting materials, such as Excel sheets, directly within the PPT.
  • Due credits should be given to any references taken.
  • Naming Convention: CampusName_YourName (or) OrganizationName_YourName 

Alchemy Grand Finale:

  • Finalist teams to present their case to the Jury in the Grand Finale.

Mergers and Acquisitions:

  • In 2022, Asian Paints acquired controlling stakes in Weatherseal Fenestration, engaged in the business of interior decoration/furnishing, including manufacturing uPVC Windows and door systems.
  • Along with Weatherseal, Asian Paints also bought 100% stake in Obgenix Software Private Limited: (popularly known by the brand name of White Teak) Obgenix Software Private is a private limited company engaged in the business to design, trade or otherwise deal in all types and description of decorative lighting products and fans, etc. Both acquisitions will be made in a staggered manner over the next three years.
  • In 2014, Asian Paints (International) acquires 51% stake in Kadisco Chemical Industry PLC of Ethiopia: Asian Paints (International) has signed an agreement with the shareholders of Kadisco acquiring 51% stake of the equity share capital of Kadisco. Kadisco manufactures and sells paints, other coatings, and adhesives in Ethiopia.
  • In 2014, Asian Paints buys front-end sales business of Ess Ess Bathroom Products: Asian Paints said the acquisition is subject to satisfaction of certain conditions precedents and applicable statutory approvals. Ess Ess is a prominent player in the bath and wash business segment in India and has high-quality products in this segment.
  • In 2016, Asian Paints enter distribution tie-up with Henkel Adhesive Technologies: Asian Paints has entered the retail segment of the adhesives category through a distribution arrangement with Germany’s Henkel Adhesive Technologies. Under the arrangement, Henkel’s adhesive brand Loctite will be sold at the retail level through a co-branding initiative. Although the company had B2B presence in the adhesive segment in India, this is the first time it is entering retail.
  • In 2017, Asian Paints acquires Sri Lankan firm Causeway Paints: Asian Paints through its Singapore-based indirect subsidiary Berger International Pvt Ltd (BIPL), acquired Causeway Paints Lanka Pvt Ltd, the Sri Lankan paints manufacturing company.

Corporate Social Responsibility:

Asian Paints is inclusive of their communities through a range of social interventions, enhancing skills and building social infrastructure to improve their community's quality of life.

While Asian Paints CSR approach focuses on the betterment of communities around their plants, they have also developed creative programs that help in improving their capabilities as a paint manufacturer and home improvement service provider to better the livelihood of poor communities through vocational training and skills development.

Asian Paints CSR focuses on the following 4 areas-

  1. Education- Asian Paints acknowledges the value of learning as a persuasive means to subdue poverty and social imbalance and therefore, this is a major impact field in their expanding CSR exercise. They are committed to promoting access to quality education, particularly for disadvantaged communities that are located around our facilities. Asian Paints intervention includes adoption and infrastructure development of schools, up-gradation of school buildings, providing chairs, benches, and other classroom aids, etc.

  2. Skills Development - Vocational Training- following the national developmental aims on skills improvement, Asian Paints is focused on rendering vocational training to develop skills in the unorganized sector. Asian Paints tries to provide vocational and skill-based training to painters, applicators, carpenters and workers, to enhance their employability and improve their livelihoods.

  3. Healthcare and Hygiene- Keeping in mind the importance of healthcare and hygiene, Asian Paints have taken up various interventions like primary healthcare support, free medical camps for rural communities, setting up rehabilitation centers, etc.

  4. Water Management- Asian Paints believes that it is its responsibility to judiciously use and help conserve water resources. Their work includes giving support to each and every stage of water conservation, water preservation, water recharge, and wastewater treatment. They have implemented various water conservation projects, wastewater treatment, and reusing process water. Key interventions include awareness of water conservation in schools and nearby villages, installation of rooftop rainwater harvesting and recharge systems in village communities and schools, promoting integrated watershed development in areas around manufacturing locations, and water recharge through desilting of lakes.
