Building India Case Study Competition 2027: Stages and Timelines

Online Quiz

- The Team Leader is designated as the primary individual eligible to take the quiz between 5th to 6th December 2026.
- The quiz will be conducted in a Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) format.
- Teams will be tested on their general awareness, knowledge of current events and understanding of the competition theme.
- Correct answers will earn the team 2 points for each question.
- There will be no negative marking.

Idea Pitch Submission

The qualifying teams will develop their solution to the given problem and submit a 3-minute video pitch along with a 5-slide PowerPoint Presentation in PDF format by 11:59 PM, 3rd January 2027. Only one submission per team will be allowed.

Start: 10 Dec'26, 10:00 AM IST End: 3 Jan'27, 11:59 PM IST

Semi Finale Submission

The qualifying teams will develop their solution on the given problem and submit a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation in PDF format by 11:59 PM, 20th January 2027. Only one submission per team will be allowed.

Semi Finals

- The Semi-Finals will be held offline in Gurgaon on 22 and 23 January 2027. Results will be announced on 25 January 2027.
- Qualifying teams will present solutions for the given problem to a panel of distinguished judges.
- Teams will be assessed by the judge panel based on several parameters: understanding of the problem statement, clarity and effectiveness of the solution, presentation and communication skills, and performance during the Q&A session, among other parameters.

National Final Submissions

The qualifying teams will develop their solution to the given problem and submit a 15-slide PowerPoint presentation in PDF format by 11:59 PM on 16 February 2027. Only one submission per team will be allowed.

National Finals

- The presentation for the National Finals will be held on 19 February 2027 in New Delhi in front of a panel of distinguished judges.
- Teams will be assessed by the judge panel based on several parameters: understanding of the problem statement, clarity and effectiveness of the solution, presentation and communication skills, and performance during the Q&A session, among other parameters.

Note: Transportation and accommodation arrangements for the finalists will be taken care by the Building India team.

All that you need to know about Building India Case Study Competition 2027

About the event:

Building India Case Study Competition is the largest undergraduate case study competition in India engaging students to solve challenging governance problem statements on Education, Sports, Public Health etc. Selected students get the opportunity to present their solutions in front of subject matter experts and government stakeholders.

The theme of the fourth edition is "Substance Use". The problem statement is “How can India strengthen demand-side interventions to prevent and reduce substance use among youth by 2030?"

Eligibility:

  • Participants should be currently enrolled in an undergraduate program in India. Participants are required to submit a scanned copy of their college ID at every round of the competition for verification purposes.
  • Participation in teams of two is mandatory. Both members must be from the same college, and individual participation is not permitted.
  • Cross-specialisation and cross-year teams are permitted.
  • Each student is allowed to be a member of only one team.

Process:

1. Registration (9th October 2026 - 1st December 2026)

  • Registration details can be completed by the team leader but team member's consent will be required to complete the registration. 

Note: Any deviation from the aforementioned guidelines will result in the immediate disqualification of the team. Additionally, English will be the primary language for all communications and assessments.

2. Online Quiz (5th - 6th December 2026)

Format:
  • Registered teams will receive login details for the Online Quiz via their registered email address.
  • The quiz will be conducted in a Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) format.
  • Teams will be tested on their general awareness, knowledge of current events, and understanding of the competition theme.
  • Correct answers will earn the team 2 point each.
  • There will be no negative marking for incorrect attempt(s).
  • The Team Leader is designated as the primary member who is eligible to take the quiz.
Results and Next Steps:
  • The top-performing teams will qualify for the next stage.
  • The result will be published on the website. Qualified teams will be notified via their registered email addresses.
  • Qualified teams will receive detailed instructions about the requirements for the subsequent stage of the competition.

3. Idea-Pitch Submission (10th December 2026 - 3rd January 2027)

Format:
  • The qualifying teams will develop their solutions to the given problem statement on the theme of Substance Use in form of a 5-slide PowerPoint presentation in PDF format and a 3-minute video pitch and submit it by 03 January 2027.
  • You will be required to add the following details on the Cover Page (first introductory slide) of your submission:
    • Title of your presentation
    • Names of both team members
    • College Name 
  • Presentations will have to be uploaded only on the Unstop platform before the deadline of 11:59 PM, 3rd January 2027.
  • Only one submission per team will be allowed.
Results and Next Steps:
  • Following the evaluation of presentations, the top-performing teams will qualify for the next stage.
  • The official results will be made available on the website. The qualified teams will also be communicated on their registered email address.
  • Qualified teams will receive detailed instructions regarding the semi finals.

4. Semi Finals (6th January 2027 - 23rd January 2027)

Format:

  • The qualifying teams will develop their solutions to the given problem statement on the theme of Substance Use in the form of a 10-slide PowerPoint presentation and submit it in PDF format by 20 January 2027.
  • Only one submission per team will be allowed.
  • The Semi-Finals will be held from 22 January to 23 January 2027 in Gurgaon, where the qualifying teams will present their solutions to the given problem statement on the theme of Substance Use before a distinguished panel of judges.
  • Teams will be assessed by the judge panel based on several parameters: understanding of the problem statement, clarity and effectiveness of the solution, presentation, and communication skills, and performance during the Q&A session.
  • Top performers from the Semi Finals will qualify for the National Finals.

5. National Finals (27th January 2027 - 19th February 2027)

Format:

  • The qualifying teams will develop their solutions to the given problem statement on the theme of Substance Use in the form of a 15-slide PowerPoint presentation and submit it in PDF format by 16 February 2027.
  • Only one submission per team will be allowed.

  • The National Finals will be held on 19 February 2027 in New Delhi, where the teams will present their solutions before a distinguished panel of judges.
  • Teams will be assessed by the judging panel based on several parameters: understanding of the problem statement, clarity and effectiveness of the solution, presentation and communication skills, and performance during the Q&A session.

Note - Transportation and accommodation arrangements for the finalists will be taken care of by the Building India team.

Prizes worth ₹16 Lakhs are up for grabs. Round-wise prize details are as follows:

  • National Finals:
      • Winning Team: ₹5 Lakhs + MacBooks
      • First Runner-Up Team: ₹3 Lakhs + iPads
      • Second Runner-Up Team: ₹2 Lakhs + iPads
      • Other National Finalists: ₹30,000 each.
      • Placement and internship offers for selected students.
      • Exclusive merchandise for all national finalists.

Note: Only the final year students from the teams reaching in National Finals will be eligible for placement opportunities. Other students participating in the National Finals will be considered eligible for internship opportunities.

  • Semi Finals: E-certificates will be issued to all participants and winners.

  • Idea-Pitch Submission: E-certificates will be issued to all participants.

  • Online Quiz: E-certificates will be issued to all participants.
