Round 1: Online Assessment (Participate and earn Participation Certificate)
Each team will tackle 45 questions in 30 minutes, covering DI, Analytics, Verbal Ability, Quantitative Skills & HPCL-specific questions. The HPCL questions will cover recent developments, business portfolios, strategic initiatives, and other key updates within the company. The team’s final score will be the highest score achieved by any team member who attempted.
Note: Participation Certificate for all those who attempt the first round of the online assessment.
Round 2: Video Submission (Participate and earn Certificate of Appreciation)
Shortlisted teams must submit a 2-minute video pitch explaining their idea. The explanation should be presented stepwise on a whiteboard or demonstrated using objects, or in any format of visual presentation, while the team records themselves.
Round 3: Detailed Presentation Submission (Participate and earn Certificate of Merit)
Shortlisted teams from the video submission round will submit a detailed 7-slide PowerPoint presentation outlining their solution.
Semi-Finale Submission
All shortlisted semi-finalists must submit their final presentation, which will be presented in front of HPCL leaders.
Round 4: Physical/Virtual Semi-Finale
Shortlisted teams from the detailed presentation round will present their solutions to the HPCL jury, followed by a dynamic Q&A session.
Round 5: Grand Conclave
Top teams from the semi-finale will present their solution, where the jury will assess their solutions, and the top teams will be announced.

With the tagline "where bright minds fuel the next leap", HP Power Lab 2.0 challenges you to bring your boldest, most creative concepts to the table.
In this competition, we aim to gather focused, actionable ideas that align with HPCL’s vision of energy innovation and sustainability. Each theme targets specific challenges and opportunities in real-time problems in HPCL, and we encourage participants to submit ideas that offer practical solutions tailored to HPCL’s industry focus.

Eligibility Criteria:
- Undergraduate/postgraduate/PhD scholar students pursuing a full-time degree are eligible to participate.
- The participants can either register as individuals or compete in teams of 1-4.
- One person cannot be a part of more than one team.
Team Formulation Guidelines:
- Participants must ensure that they choose a name for their team.
- It is the team leader’s responsibility to ensure that all the team members are eligible to participate in the contest.
- Violation of the eligibility criteria or team constitution will automatically disqualify the team.
- HPCL reserves the right to check the validity of the registration information submitted at any point in time.
- Modification of team members post-registration will not be allowed.
- Cross-college teams are allowed.
- Cross-year and cross-specialisation teams are allowed.
Stages:
Round 1: Online Assessment
- The online assessment window will be open for 12 hours.
- Each team will face 45 questions in 30 minutes that test their knowledge in areas like Brand Knowledge, Data Interpretation (DI), Analytics, Verbal Ability, and Quantitative Skills, as well as specialised questions related to HPCL.
- Points will be awarded based on both accuracy and speed, so answering quickly and correctly is key.
- The team’s final score will be the highest score achieved by any team member who attempted.
Round 2: Video Submission
- Shortlisted teams from the online assessment round will be provided with 7 themes. Teams need to choose one problem statement to submit their solutions.
- Teams have to create a 2-minute video pitch that showcases their idea in a concise, engaging format. The explanation can be presented stepwise on a whiteboard or demonstrated using objects, or in any format of visual presentation, while the team records themselves.
- Preferred video submission methods include an unlisted YouTube video URL, shareable Google Drive link, WeTransfer link, or any other easily accessible format.
Round 3: Detailed Presentation Submission

Each team will submit a comprehensive 7-slide PowerPoint presentation outlining their solution in detail.
Round 4: Physical/Virtual Semi-Finale
- Shortlisted teams from the detailed presentation round will have the opportunity to present their innovative solutions directly to the esteemed HPCL jury.
- Following the presentation, teams will engage in a dynamic Q&A session with the jury.
Round 5: Grand Conclave
- The top teams from the semi-final will be invited to present their solutions in person to the esteemed jury.
- After the presentations, the jury will evaluate each team's solution based on creativity, feasibility, and impact. The top teams will be announced, marking the culmination of this exciting journey.
Rewards and Prizes:
- The Winners will be rewarded with a cash prize of up to ₹1,50,000
- The 1st Runner-up will be rewarded with a cash prize of up to ₹1,00,000
- The 2nd Runner-up will be rewarded with a cash prize of up to ₹75,000
- The 3rd Runner-up will be rewarded with a cash prize of up to ₹50,000
- The 4th Runner-up will be rewarded with a cash prize of up to ₹50,000
- 6th - 10th Position Holders will be rewarded with a cash prize of up to ₹30,000 each
- Top 50 participants stand a chance to win exclusive Summer Internship opportunities at HPCL
- Participation, Appreciation and Merit Certificates will be awarded to all the eligible teams participating in round 1, round 2 and round 3, respectively.

About Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd
Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) was formed on July 15, 1974. HPCL is a Maharatna Central Public Sector Enterprise (CPSE) with annual Gross sales of Rs. 4,64,247 crore during 2024-25. On 31st January 2018, the Government of India transferred its 51.11% equity stake in HPCL to the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). As of March 2025, the shareholding (as a % total number of shares) of ONGC (Promotor & Promotor Group) is 54.9%, and the balance 45.1% is held by others.
HPCL achieved the highest-ever sales volume of 49.8 MMT and processed the highest-ever 25.3 million tonnes of crude during 2024-25 with 109% refinery capacity utilization and achieved the highest-ever pipeline throughput of 26.9 MMT during the year. HPCL enjoys approximately 20.3% market share in India and has a strong presence in refining and marketing petroleum products in the country. During 2024-25, HPCL recorded the standalone PAT of ₹ 7,365 crore.
HPCL owns and operates Refineries at Mumbai and Visakhapatnam with designed capacities of 9.5 MMTPA and 15.0 MMTPA, respectively. HPCL also a Lube Refinery at Mumbai for producing Lube Oil Base Stocks with a capacity of 428 TMTPA. HPCL holds a 48.99% equity stake in JV Company, HMEL, which operates an 11.3 MMTPA capacity refinery in Punjab, and also has a 16.96% equity stake in MRPL, which operates a 15 MMTPA capacity refinery in Karnataka.
HPCL has a vast marketing network consisting of 19 Zonal offices in major cities and 147 Regional Offices facilitated by a Supply and distribution infrastructure comprising 43 Terminals/Installations/Tap Off Points, 37 Depots & 28 Exclusive Lube Depots, 57 Aviation Fuel Stations, 55 LPG Bottling Plants, 4 Lube Blending plants. The customer touch points constitute 24,106 Retail Outlets, 1,638 SKO/LDO dealers, 367 Bazar Lube distributors, 155 Industrial Lube Distributors, 2,088 CNG facilities at Retail Outlets, 5,508 EV charging stations, 884 Door-to-door delivery dispensers and 6,385 LPG Distributorships with a customer base of 9.78 crore LPG consumers as of Aug’25.
HPCL has the second-largest petroleum product pipeline network in India, with a network length of 5,134 km. HPCL also conducts business through 20 JV and Subsidiary companies operating across the oil and gas value chain.
HPCL has its Research & Development Centre named ‘HP Green R&D Centre’ in Bengaluru. The Centre provides advanced technical support to the Refineries and Marketing SBUs for operational improvement, absorbing new technologies, developing innovative and path-breaking technologies, and license technologies, and becoming a knowledge hub. HPCL is committed to conducting business to preserve the environment, sustainable development, being a safe workplace, and enriching the quality of life of employees, customers, and the community. HPCL’s CSR reaffirms the continuing commitment of the corporation toward societal development.
