All that you need to know about HUL - IT Reboot

The Concept

An inter B‐school IT & business challenge to give students an opportunity to stretch their imagination and come up with innovative IT solutions.

The Participants

India’s premier B-schools - IIIM-L, IIM-I, IIM-K, SPJIMR, NITIE & XLRI in India. This contest is open to all Final year students from these institutes, those with a specialization in IT/Information Management or those planning to pursue a career in IT.

The Rules

  • Students have to register in teams of 3 members only (Register through Dare2Compete)
  • HUL serves the right to check the validity of the registration information submitted at any point of time
  • Any deviation from the above will result in immediate disqualification of the entire team
  • Modification of team post registration will not be allowed.

The Process

The contest will span across 5 weeks and will take place in the following phases:

Phase 1: Registration, Case Launch and Submission

  • Registrations for the case study competition will open on 23rd October’18. Interested students can register themselves in teams of 3 through Dare2Compete
  • Case Landing- A live project case will be put up on the Dare2Compete and Unilever Diaries Facebook page for all teams on 25th October’18.
  • Synopsis Submission- Teams have to prepare their solutions and upload a 1-page solution synopsis on Dare2Compete
  • Last date of Synopsis Submission is 6th Nov'18 11:59 PM

Phase 2: Shortlisting & Campus Round

  • An initial round of shortlisting will be done based on the synopsis submitted
  • Shortlisted teams from each campus will have to make a detailed presentation to a panel who will visit their respective campuses between 12th to 17th November’18
  • The time earmarked for each presentation is 5 mins presentation + 10 mins Q&A
  • Teams will present their solutions and the best presentation will be selected as the Campus Winner from each institute.  

Phase 3: Detailed Groundwork and Mentoring

  • Winning Teams selected from each campus will be assigned a mentor from HUL to refine their solutions by conceptual clarity/discussion via mail or phone.
  • The teams will get approx. 1 week for the preparation/refinement during this stage.

Phase 4: Grand Finale & PPI

  • The Campus Winners from each campus will be invited to Unilever IT centre in Bangalore - Enterprise and Technology Solutions Centre - to present to a panel of Senior leaders.
  • Teams will make a 15 mins presentation (10 min presentation + 5 mins Q&A) and compete against some of the best minds from other colleges to declare the winner of IT Reboot 2018!
  • Final winners + a few identified students will be given Pre-Placement Interviews which will entitle them to a pre-placement offer to join our management trainee program in 2019, once they have completed their course.
  • Interviews will be conducted on the same day, post the final presentations of IT reboot.
  • All other students participating in the grand finale will get a direct shortlist to the Prelim Round of Interview conducted during the HUL campus recruitment process of Final Placements.

For the Winners

  • Grand Finale winners will be entitled to a cash prize of Rs. 1,50,000/- + a Pre Placement Interview (PPI) to get a Pre Placement Offer (PPO) and join our Management trainee program (UFLP program) in 2019
  • The Campus winners from each college will receive a cash prize of Rs. 75000/- +a shortlist to the Prelim Interview* round in the final recruitment process of HUL OR a Pre Placement Interview (PPI) to join our Management trainee program in 2019

About Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL)

  • India’s largest FMCG company with 65 brands in more than 20 categories.
  • A turnover of Rs. 60,680 Crores with an EBITDA of Rs. 15,144 crores.

In 1931, Unilever set up its first Indian subsidiary, Hindustan Vanaspati Manufacturing Company, followed by Lever Brothers India Limited (1933) and United Traders Limited (1935). Recent Mergers and Acquisitions

  • In one of the largest mergers in the FMCG industry, GSK consumer healthcare was merged with HUL for $3.8Bn. This deal will give HUL a strong foothold in the Nutrition and health drinks category with brands like Horlicks
  • Another major acquisition in 2019-2020 was that of V-Wash, the female intimate hygiene brand
  • HUL also acquired the ice cream and frozen desserts business of Vijaykant Dairy and Food Products Limited, giving it access to ‘Aditya Milk’ and its distribution network

Main Roles offered to Students: For management students, HUL hires them as Management Trainees and takes them through their 15-18 month training program known as the Unilever Future Leaders Program. After completion of the training program, the trainees are employed in various areas of work like Sales and Marketing, HR, Supply Chain, Finance, etc.
