All that you need to know about Unbound 26 Hackathon

About Unbound '26:

  • Unbound '26 is the flagship national-level online hackathon organized by FOSS CLUB PU.
  • Over two weeks, student developers, designers, and innovators from across the country will collaborate to build impactful software completely from scratch.
  • Unbound is designed as a 14-day deep dive into Open Innovation, giving participants the time and freedom to architect, build, and refine production-ready prototypes rooted in the philosophy of Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS).

Theme:

  • Open Innovation.
  • Participants are free to build any solution that addresses a real-world problem, provided it is open-source.

Important Timelines:

  • Registrations Close: June 12, 2026 (Before the Kickoff Hour).
  • Hackathon Kickoff: June 12, 2026.
  • Mid-Way Technical Checkpoint: June 19, 2026.
  • Final Repository Submission & Code Freeze: June 26, 2026 (11:59 PM IST).
  • Results & Winners Announcement: Early July 2026.

Golden FOSS Mandates & Rules:

  • Team Size: 1 to 4 members.
  • Cross-college teams are highly encouraged.
  • Every project repository must include a valid OSI-approved open-source license file such as MIT, Apache 2.0, or GNU GPL v3 in the root directory.
  • Submissions without a valid FOSS license will be disqualified.
  • Git commit history will be reviewed to ensure authentic development activity.
  • Single-commit code dumps at the final stage are not permitted.
  • All core logic must be developed during the 14-day hackathon period.
  • The primary application engine must rely on open ecosystem alternatives or open APIs rather than restrictive paid closed-source services.

Final Submission Deliverables:

  • Public Git Repository Link (GitHub, GitLab, or Codeberg).
  • Production-ready README.md with setup and installation instructions along with technical architecture details.
  • A 5-minute demo video URL (YouTube or public Google Drive link) showcasing the working prototype.

Perks & Benefits:

  • Opportunity to add a production-ready open-source project to your portfolio and resume.
  • Digital certificates for all teams with a valid and verified submission.
