Global Social Responsibility Challenge: Stages and Timelines

Round 1: Two-Slide Business Plan

In the first round, participants will be required develop a business plan an existing technology, or an original business/innovation, that can be utilized to address sustainability or climate change issues in a country of their choice.

A distinguished panel of experts will evaluate the submissions, assessing the teams' problem-solving skills, depth of analysis, and the feasibility and creativity of their proposed solutions, and the top teams with the will advance to the next round.

Round 2: Mentorship and Refinement (Online)

In the second round, the selected teams will have the opportunity to receive mentorship from esteemed industry leaders, including CXOs of prominent companies. These influential individuals will offer their expertise, guidance, and support to help the teams refine their solutions and effectively prepare for the final round of the competition. By leveraging their vast experience and knowledge, the mentors will provide valuable insights into the industry, sharing the challenges faced by professionals in the field and offering strategies to overcome them. This mentorship program aims to empower the teams with the practical skills, industry acumen, and real-world perspectives necessary for success in their respective fields.

Round 3: Case Presentation (Online)

In the third round, the selected teams will present their solutions to a panel of judges, which will include industry leaders, academics, and professionals from various fields. The presentations will be evaluated based on the team's understanding of the problem, their solution's feasibility, and their communication skills' effectiveness. The scores from this round will be added to those from previous rounds to determine the finalists. The final date and time of the presentations will be communicated to the teams closer to the date of the event.

IIM Bangaloreʼs International Business Summit Vista 2024, presents the International Case Competition on "Sustainability, Social Responsibility, and Impact". We propose an international business plan development competition that aims to provide a platform for students from around the world to showcase their problem-solving abilities and gain recognition for their work.

Participants will be challenged to elaborate how an existing technology, or an original business/innovation, can be utilized to address sustainability or climate change issues, demanding participants to dig deep and showcase their analytical prowess. Teams will embark on a meticulous exploration, identifying and proposing a solution for the most pressing issues of our time - from curbing carbon emissions to creating alternatives for plastic.

It is a multi-stage event that will test your ability to generate valuable insights and stick to your guns in the face of intense competitive pressures. Rack your brains to come up with the right solution!

This event brings together the smartest minds in the world, who then battle it out for the coveted title of being the Best Business Strategist by providing solutions to modern problems.

Rounds:

Round 1: Two-Slide Business Plan:

  • Round 1 will be a thought-provoking business plan development around solving a major sustainability issue in the country of your choice.
  • In this two-slide solution, teams should showcase their ability to distill complex ideas into a concise and impactful format. They should present a comprehensive analysis of the solution, with an overview of the idea, implementation techniques and nuances, and a financial analysis.
  • The solutions devised by the participants should showcase a blend of strategic thinking, ethical considerations, and creative problem-solving. Teams should highlight the potential long-term benefits of implementing sustainable practices, engaging stakeholders, and fostering inclusive growth.

Please note that the two slides are exclusive of title/thank you slides.

Round 2: Mentorship and Refinement:

  • This stage is designed to enhance their solutions, provide guidance, and elevate their impact-driven strategies to new heights.
  • Mentorship plays a pivotal role in Round 2 as teams are paired with experienced industry professionals, social impact leaders, and subject matter experts. These mentors bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise, guiding the participants towards innovative solutions that align with real-world challenges.
  • During this phase, teams engage in deep discussions with their mentors, leveraging their insights to refine their initial two-pager solutions. They delve deeper into their research, conduct further analysis, and integrate valuable feedback into their strategies. The mentorship process fuels creativity, enabling teams to think beyond conventional approaches and push boundaries for maximum social impact.
  • Round 2 exemplifies the importance of collaboration, as participants and mentors work together to create transformative social responsibility initiatives. Teams with similar ideas and mentors may also join hands, to create the ideal solution. The round is meant to foster an environment where diverse perspectives converge, facilitating innovation and breakthrough thinking.

Round 3: International Final (Presentation and Judging):

  • Each team should present their comprehensive business plans, showcasing how they intertwine sustainability and social responsibility within the fabric of business operations. They should emphasize the alignment of purpose and profit, outlining how their proposed initiatives would create shared value for stakeholders while addressing the problem at hand.
  • The presentations should demonstrate not only the depth of research and analysis undertaken by the teams but also their ability to communicate complex ideas with clarity and conviction. They weave together compelling narratives that articulate the transformative power of their solutions and the potential for widespread positive impact.
  • The judging process is rigorous, as industry experts, business leaders, and sustainability influencers evaluate the teams' presentations against a set of criteria that encompass feasibility, scalability, social impact, and innovation. Each team's ability to present a compelling business case while addressing pressing societal issues is meticulously assessed.

Terms & Conditions:

  • Team Size: 2-4 members
  • All decisions in matters of eligibility, authenticity, and final judgments will be with the organizing committee of Vista, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore.
  • The format and structure of events on campus could be subject to change before the actual beginning of the event.
  • The decisions of the organizers will be final and binding on all participants.

Winner and Runner-ups will be awarded prizes worth USD 1500.
