Ideathon: Stages and Timelines
Preliminary Round
In the preliminary round, participants are required to submit their project ideas along with a PowerPoint presentation of up to two pages.
All the participants who submit the presentation will proceed to the next round which will be offline at IIT Madras.
This round is just to get an abstract idea of your project to help us streamline the judging process.
Offline Round
Participants in the offline round will present their project ideas within a maximum of 15 slides, with a time limit of 10 minutes for their presentation. They are encouraged to concisely cover key aspects such as problem statement, solution proposed, methodology, potential impact, and scalability, ensuring clarity and effectiveness within the allotted time frame.

Welcome to the Ideathon competition, an exciting opportunity for students and aspiring entrepreneurs to showcase their innovative projects and startup ideas. Here's everything you need to know:
Competition Overview: The Ideathon competition consists of two sections.
- Student Projects: BTech students will showcase their BTP (Bachelor's Thesis Project) or BTech project work, while MS students will present their research work.
- Startup Ideas: Aspiring entrepreneurs will present their startup ideas and ventures.
It'll have two round. In first round, participants have to submit their work ideas in unstop & selected participants will present their work (ppt) in the offline round on 31st March, 2024 from 3:30 to 6 PM.
Competition Format:
- The competition is individual-based, and participants will present their projects or startup ideas to a panel of judges.
- Each participant will have a specified time slot for their presentation, followed by a Q&A session with the judges.
Judging Criteria:
- Projects and startup ideas will be evaluated based on criteria such as innovation, feasibility, impact, and presentation quality.
- Judges will assess the originality of ideas, the potential for implementation, and the overall effectiveness of the presentation.
Prizes:
- Separate prizes will be awarded for both sections.
- Student Projects: Winner and runner-up prizes will be awarded to outstanding BTech and MS student projects.
- Startup Ideas: Similarly, winner and runner-up prizes will be awarded to promising startup ideas.
Competition Guidelines:
- Participants must adhere to the allotted presentation time and follow the guidelines provided by the organizers.
- Presentations should be clear, concise, and engaging, focusing on key aspects of the project or startup idea.
- Participants are encouraged to prepare visual aids or demos to enhance their presentations.
- Respectful conduct and professionalism are expected from all participants during the competition.
Important Dates:
- Registration Deadline: 30th March 2024, 11:59 AM
- Competition Date: 31st March 2024, 4-6 PM
- Venue: MSB 243, Mechanical Sciences Block (MSB), IIT Madras
Hospitality/Accommodation:
- All students traveling from other universities will have lodging during MECHANICA 2024, which will allow them to stay until the evening of the third day of the festival. To apply, click here

Registration Fee : MEA members are exempt. Participants from outside IIT Madras need to purchase the Mechanica Passport for Rs. 350/-, allowing access to various events and competitions with a prize pool exceeding 1 Lakh.
