Make Your Own MARS, A Retail Strategy Competition: Stages and Timelines
Round 1 - Quiz
The first round is 20-minute quiz where participants will tackle 20 questions designed to assess their knowledge of retail topics and what is happening in the industry, including recent news related to supply chain management, customer experience, pricing techniques, omnichannel retailing, digital marketing trends, consumer behaviour, and branding strategies. Top 15 highest-scoring teams will qualify for the subsequent round.
Round 2 – Marketing Campaign
Shortlisted teams will execute a new comprehensive marketing campaign on their own retail & merchandise store. Teams can post videos, messages, or other creative content on social media, tagging MARS, VISTA, and a specified hashtag (specified by the team). The campaign will be evaluated based on creativity, engagement (likes, shares, and comments), and adherence to marketing principles. This round although non-eliminative presents an opportunity to develop an edge over other participants.
Round 3 – Market your MARS
The final round will be a hybrid case presentation, a small case study will be released on the eve of VISTA, shortlisted teams must submit their solutions in a PowerPoint presentation and showcase their solutions to an elite panel of judges.The presentation will be for 6 minutes followed by a 2-minute Q&A session.

Make Your Own MARS is a dynamic and challenging competition designed to test participants' expertise in retail and marketing. The event simulates the experience of managing your own retail store, providing practical insights into the challenges of retailing and merchandising. Participants will navigate through multiple rounds; each designed to evaluate and enhance their skills in various aspects of retail management and marketing strategies.

Rules:
- Winners would be decided based on the combined scores of round 2 and round 3.
- The competition is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students.
- Each team can have 1-3 members.
- Multiple teams from the same college are allowed.
- Participants in the same team should be from the same college.
- A student cannot be part of more than one team.
The participants must carefully read through and agree to the following Terms & Conditions before registering:
- All decisions in matters of eligibility, authenticity, and final judgments will be with the organizing committee of Vista, Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore.
- The organizing committee holds the discretion to change the format and structure of the event at any point.
